Raw Food Diet: Because Your Shih Tzu Deserves to Be Healthy and Loved Unconditionally
One of the most popular dog breeds in the world is the Shih Tzu. Apart from being cuddly, playful, social and good-natured, they are simply lovable. However, like other small dog breeds, Shih Tzus are prone to health problems like respiratory disorder and hip dysplasia.
And being a loving mum to your dog, you want your pup to remain healthy and strong. This is why it is important to make the right choice when it comes to giving your dog nutrition.
There is a myriad of commercial dog food products out there but no one really knows what they are made of. Perhaps, you are familiar with some dog food brands that have been recalled and your vet had given you recommended brands as well. But have you tried giving your dog raw food diet? Yes, raw as in uncooked chicken bone, meat, vegetables and the like.
Why should you start giving your dog raw food?
1.It will give your Shih Tzu strong and healthy teeth.
Your dog is pre-disposed to dental problems because this breed is brachycephalic and characterized by having a small head which makes your pup prone to having misaligned teeth. To minimize the possibilities of having this problem, it is best to give him or her food with sufficient calcium and magnesium. Meat, egg shells and bones are rich sources of calcium. With a grinder, you can pulverize the bone and mix it with the dog food you give your pet. As for the egg shells, boil them for five minutes to ensure bacteria is removed. Dry them out by putting them inside an oven and grind them into bits. Some dog owners use pestle and mortar instead of a grinder and if you can try this as well. Sufficient calcium in the body will give you dog healthy bones and teeth.
